Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN), a champion of abstinence education and traditional family values, will resign effective Friday after an affair with a female staffer in his district office, he announced today.

He said in a statement that he "sinned against God, my wife and my family by having a mutual relationship with a part-time member of my staff." And he blamed the atmosphere in Washington for forcing him to make the move:

"In the poisonous environment of Washington, D.C., any personal failing is seized upon, often twisted, for political gain. I am resigning rather than to put my family through that painful, drawn-out process."

But, Fox News, which first reported the development, suggests that there may be ethical impropriety of some kind:

Multiple senior House sources indicated that the extent of the affair would have landed Souder before the House Ethics Committee.

The eight-term Indiana congressman is, of course, a vocal proponent of traditional family values. He has been married since 1974 and has three grown children.

"I believe that Congress must fight to uphold the traditional values that undergird the strength of our nation," he says on his official website. "The family plays a fundamental role in our society. Studies consistently demonstrate that it is best for a child to have a mother and father, and I am committed to preserving traditional marriage, the union of one man and one woman."

Souder adds: "I am committed to fighting the assault on American values."

Here's video of Souder talking abstinence education and "the failures of condom distribution" in an interview with a staffer. He also issued a report (.pdf) called "Abstinence and its Critics."

Investigating agencies are scrutinising the bank accounts of Madhuri Gupta, the Indian diplomat who was arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan, have found no no unusual transactions.

Sources told rediff.com that this gives the impression that money was not her primary motivation. "We are still probing and trying to find out if she had some other account, but as of now we can say that there have been no suspicious transactions," the source said.

During her interrogation Madhuri said that she liked to live a good life and wanted the best of everything. This led the investigators to believe that she was paid in kind by her handlers in exchange of whatever little information she revealed.

Madhuri was upset about the alleged humiliation she suffered at the hands of her superiors. When the Inter-Services Intelligence got wind of this, they started to trail her. When Gupta was approached by her handlers, she thought of putting this opportunity to best use. The entire operation has been carefully planned and both parties were aware that monetary transactions would leave a trail and hence they decided to avoid this.

Madhuri revealed that she felt lonely and yearned for company. She said that she always wanted to live a good life. These statements are an indication that she could have been paid in kind.

Investigators hope to gather more information once they finish scrutinising her computer, which they believe was a vital part of her espionage operation.

At the Daily Beast, John Avlon has a strong round-up of reactions to Comedy Central's decision to censor images and references to Muhammad in the latest episode of South Park, including Islam-reform advocates Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Irshad Manji, and South Park Conservatives author Brian Anderson. They reinforce the same messages that NewsReal has been discussing all week—the un-American nature of censorship, the barbarism of radical Islam, and the futility of appeasing thugs.

In particular, Avlon highlights Manji's petition against death threats, which you should all sign:

"It's ridiculous enough that extremist thugs put Islam's human prophet on some pedestal, engaging in idolatry of their own," she told me. "But the fact these arrogant fools operate from New York City reminds us that open societies need to be defended—for everyone's freedom to believe as they choose. When I and fellow writers got a similar death threat from ummah.com, a site run out of Britain, we created a petition promoting human rights and secular values for all. To date, it's got thousands of signatures from both Muslims and non-Muslims. Readers can still sign their names and cities. It's a fast way of telegraphing to radical Islamists that their death threats won't chill our consciences. There's strength in numbers."

The main substance of the controversy has already been skillfully explored by others here at NewsReal, but there are two further observations I think are worth making.

First, a minor disagreement with John L. Work: as pathetic as Bill O'Reilly's squishiness on the issue is, I have a hard time believing Saudi money is dictating the opinions of Fox personalities. These days Fox is still getting bashed by the usual suspects for "anti-Islam" propaganda as much as they've always been—just last moth, Sean Hannity ran a brutal interview with Mosab Hasan Yousef, the ex-Muslim son of Hamas' founder, and today Fox has a candid report on the American Muslim who originally posted the latest threat against Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

O'Reilly's milquetoast reaction to this latest flare-up from the Religion of Perpetual Outrage is entirely consistent with, and better attributed to, his long-standing shtick of playing the centrist, "non-partisan" populist who's supposedly above the fray of lesser "ideologues."

The larger point I want to make is this: the Left's reaction to Islamic fanaticism completely puts the lie to their broader hostility toward religion as a whole. Violent, authoritarian, bigoted, irrational, self-righteous, arrogant—Islam as practiced by Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee and his ilk actually is everything leftists routinely accuse American Christianity of being. Yet it is Islam, and not Christianity, that they bend over backwards to interpret with "nuance" and "understanding": How dare the Right malign a religion of peace?

The reason is simple: the Left's crusade against religion has nothing to do with concern for rationalism, personal liberty, or freedom of thought and conscience, and everything to do with the centrality of traditional Judeo-Christian values to the America that they seek to transform. Indeed, it is precisely because Christians by and large aren't dangerous that leftists feel they can get away with saying they are. Never mind that Islamic radicalism poses the far greater threat to left-wing notions of traditional morality in the long run; traditional Christians are the more immediate foe. As Avlon points out, the censored episode also depicted Jesus watching porn. And the uproar from Christians and the mainstream media over that blasphemous depiction of a religious leader is…where?

I'd like to thank Comedy Central for unwittingly exposing the Left's true priorities, better than any of us ever could.

Geronami: Trinity University in Texas recently came under the attack from secularist students who wanted to remove 'in the year of our Lord' from their diplomas. But University took a stand for Christ. Good news for today. Please read the full story below.

Trinity University's board of trustees announced Thursday they will not grant a student group's request to drop the phrase "our Lord" from diplomas, saying that while Trinity welcomes all religions, it is right to honor its Christian roots.

"The board's decision reflects its desire to continue a Trinity tradition, and the words 'in the year of our Lord' are appropriate for the diploma, given Trinity's history and heritage," said Walter Huntley, vice chairman of the board and an Atlanta businessman.

The Trinity Diversity Connection, which requested the phrasing be dropped, issued this statement:

TDC "respects the decision the board of trustees made and appreciates their time and concern on this issue. While this was not the decision many of us were hoping for, we realize that this is a complicated issue. (TDC) will continue to represent, and advocate for, diversity on our campus."

Trinity was founded in 1869 by Presbyterians; its name signfies joint efforts of three Presbyterian synods in the name of the Holy Trinity. Since 1969, the university has been governed by an independent board of directors, maintaining a "covenant relationship" with the church.

In the past decade, school officials have sought to diversify the student body, recruiting more international students and fostering a campus environment that's accepting of all backgrounds and faiths.

The TDC requested last year that officials drop the reference to "our Lord" from diplomas, arguing that a degree is a personal document and that not all students believe in Jesus Christ.

The student government and a commencement committee backed the TDC's request, but university and diversity group leaders encountered a national backlash after the San Antonio Express-News ran a story on the debate that was picked up by news outlets around the country.

Anti-Semitism in Quran: What does it tell us about Islam?
Quran claims that it was transmitted to humanity from Allah through the agency of angel Gabriel and prophet Muhammad. Allegedly, this message was given to Muhammad in pieces over a period of 23 years (A.D. 610 to A.D. 632). Muslims claim that Allah is none other than the God of Israel of the Old Testament. They insist that Muhammad was the last great prophet from God of Israel to the whole world.
Looking into the Quran to see how it describes the Jewish people gives us a fair view into the nature of this book, which is claimed to be a revelation from God of Israel. Even a cursory overview of the Old Testament connotes us that Jews were an endeared group of people to the heart of God throughout His dealings with them. Some of the most affectionate terms were used by God to reveal His love for His people, Israel: my people, my inheritance, my wife, my son, my belonging, my sheep, the apple of my eye, my pride etc.
Now, let us look into Quran to comprehend the descriptions it gives to Jewish people.
Surah 2:65 - Pigs
Surah 3:71 - People who conceal the truth
Surah 5:41 - People who are cursed
Surah 5:60 - Apes
Surah 5:64 - Blasphemers
Surah 5:82 - Most vehement and most violent of mankind
Surah 5:64 - Not loved by Allah and sealed by him for the day of Judgment
Further, Surah 5:64 explicitly says that Allah put enmity and hatred among the Jews till the Day of Judgment. Throughout history, Muslims used all of the above phrases from Quran to describe Jewish people. Even in our own day, Imams, muftis and leaders of organizations like Hamas call Jewish people with names, ‘pigs and apes’ without any vacillation. In a recent BBC interview, Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, the leading imam of the Grand Mosque in the Islamic holy city of Mecca, referred to Jews as ‘the scum of the human race’.
All fundamental Islamic organizations influenced by Quran, from Palestine’s Hamas to Lebanon’s Hezbollah to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Qaeda to Pakistan’s Laskar-e-Toiba to Egypt’s Islamic Brotherhood to Philippines’ Abusayyaf to America’s Nation of Islam are known for their unconcealed anti-Semitism. Given the history of Muhammed’s dealings with Jews, this is not surprising.
Quran’s descriptions of the Jews in fact mirror the life of Muhammad in relation to the Jewish people. In the Suras of the Quran that are dated to the Meccan period of Muhammad’s lifetime, Jews are referred to as Banu Israil (children of Israel). In the later, Medinian suras, Jews are called with the term, Yahud, which has negative connotations.
‘Prophet’ Muhammad used the most ferocious means of retribution when the Jews of Medina rebutted his appeal to a prophethood. All the three major Jewish tribes of that city were either expelled or exterminated at the point of the sword of the prophet. Surah 33:25-26 describes the savagery of Muhammad towards the Jews following the Battle of the Trench.
And Allah turned back the unbelievers in their rage; they did not obtain any advantage, and Allah sufficed the believers in fighting; and Allah is Strong, Mighty.
And He drove down those of the followers of the Book who backed them from their fortresses and He cast awe into their hearts; some you killed and you took captive another part.
In the Bible we see Jewish people in fondness to the heart of God. The prophets of the Bible, even in their rejection by the Jews only wanted good and auspiciousness to the nation of Israel. When God told them to preach the message of judgment to the disobedient Israel, they did their prophesying with broken hearts and parched tongues (remember Jeremiah, for example).
On the contrary, Quran portrays God as antagonistic to Jews. The prophet of Quran, Muhammad wielded his sword on the people of God. No biblical prophet persecuted Jewish people. Muhammad’s eagerness to curse Jews reminds us of the false prophet of the Old Testament, Balaam who used seductive methods to bring curse on the Jews.
Conclusion: From the study of Anti-Semitism we can safely conclude that Quran was not originated from the God of Israel, nor its prophet, Muhammad was sent from God of the Bible.

The Cross: The Message of All Prophets
Our reading for today comes from Luke chapter 24, where our Risen Savior interacts intensely with two of His disciples on their way to Emmaus. Inspite of their association with Him for more than three years, the disciples were unaware of the primary purpose of the coming of our Lord into this world. Therefore, after a brief conversation with them, without disclosing His identity our Lord opened His mouth with a stern rebuke of their ignorance. He said, "O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?" (verses 25,26).
Our Lord succinctly told them the one message of all Old Testament prophets: Christ must suffer and enter into His glory. The Cross is pivotal in the life of our Lord. In His temptation in the wilderness, Satan tried to take Him away from the cross with the allure of the promise of inheriting this vainglorious world. The Lord rebuked Satan at that instance.
Peter, the dear disciple also endured the strong feeling of displeasure from our Lord when he talked against the cross in Matthew chapter 16: '¶ From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. (verses 21,22,and 23).
When our Lord told His disciples about the sufferings awaiting Him in Jerusalem, Peter voluntarity delivered his counsel to the Lord that the cross was not going to be His course. The Lord immediately turned to Him and said, 'Get thee behind me, Satan'.
We shall remember that anyone who resists the cross of our Lord is identified with Satan. Our Lord suggested that Peter was being a mouthpiece for Satan. Lord Jesus came into this world to die for the sins of the world (John 1:20, Luke 19:10). His cross was central in the plan of God in sending His Son to this sin-stricken world. Any thing that encumber this plan is Satanic. Anything that speaks against the cross and its' fulfillment of our atonement is Satanic.
Thus, the disciples on the way to Emmaus also received a stern rebuke from our Lord for not deciphering His mission to this world. He told them that the message of all prophets was the cross of Christ (Psalm 16:9-11; Psalm 22; Psalm 69; Isaiah 52; Isaiah 53; Zechariah 12:10; 13:7).
In our present culture, Islam is one religion that esteems Christ in high honor but rejects His cross. We shall not be tempted to accept the Jesus of Quran based on its hagiographic accounts of Christ, who speaks to his mother from his crib, does miracles being an infant etc. Similarly many liberal 'Christian' denominations are minimizing the role of the cross in their teachings. The Jesus of these groups is not the Jesus of the Bible or of God. He is 'another Jesus' the apostle Paul told us to stay away from.
Conclusion: Christ without Cross is absolutely unacceptable. As pointed out earlier, to disunite our Lord from His atoning work on the cross is to jettison the message and plan of God for us.

Hello again GERONAMII would just like praise you once again for your good work.Today as you told in your last video, A man converted to Islam from Christianity, As Christians ourselves it is never easy to accept when one leaves Jesus Christ, But as we know from Bible it said it would happen, Bible says; For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths" (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Greater than a Prophet: Jesus in Contrast to Mohammed

Our New Testament reading comes from Luke chapter 10. We see our Lord on the Mount of Transfiguration. "Behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias; who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem".
Jesus was seen talking with Moses and Elias in this instance and they were talking about the death of our Lord. What was the response of Peter to this incident? Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
Peter, on seeing the glory of our Lord equated Him with the prophets, Moses and Elijah. What happened then? Verse 35 tells us, 'This is my beloved Son: hear him'. God, the Father came down to set apart His Son from the prophets.
We should understand three important truths from this passage. 1. Our Lord Jesus Christ is greater than Moses and Elijah. Our Lord, being the Creator of all things, was the Creator of Moses and Elijah.
Our Muslim friends equate Jesus with prophets who preceded and succeeded Him. However, we should remember that our Lord is the God of all prophets.

2. What did He talk with Moses and Elijah? They were talking about his death, the crucifixion awaiting Him in Jerusalem. Our Lord Jesus Christ came to this world to save us from our sins and their eternal penalty. He loved us to the extent that He came down to this planet as a Human Being to go to the cross and to pay the penalty of our sins.
What a great Savior we have in Jesus? Our Muslim friends deny the cross of our Lord bases on the passages of Quran that deny the cross. But we should remember that humanity has hope only through the cross.

3. Thirdly, we should also see the witness of God the Father about God, the Son. Jesus Christ is the beloved Son of God. We should not allow our natural inclination to imagine the Son of God as a person born out of the womb of God. God the Son did not originate from God the Father, as Quran misunderstands the trinity. Throughout eternity, God the Son preexisted with God the Father. In other words, the Father and Son terminology is used only to show us the affectionate relationship between them. Jesus, God the Son is co-equal with God the Father and co-existent with Him throughout the eternity.

What a beautiful life Jesus lived in this world! In verses 51 to 56 of this chapter we Jesus dealing with the people of a Samaritan village who refused to admit Him because He was on His way to Jerusalem, a city of the Jews, with whom the Samaritans were not on good terms. When the people refused to receive Jesus, his disciples James and John immediately gave an advice to our Lord, "Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?"
When the disciples encouraged the Lord to deal with the resisters as Prophet Elijah did, how did Jesus respond? Verse 55 informs us: But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy lives, but to save them."

Take a moment and contrast the life of our Lord with that of Mohammad. Ibn Ishaq, in his great biography of Mohammad tells how the founder of Islam used to respond to his resisters. Men were brutally killed, women were raped and entire villages were decimated at the point of the sword. Quran, allegedly inspired writing of Mohammad, commands his followers at least 114 times to punish or kill the people who oppose their message.
But our Lord Jesus Christ told that He came not to destroy lives, but to save them. To save us, Jesus, in fact gave His own life on the cross. He raised again and wants to save us from our sins and offer us the forgiveness of our sins and make us worthy to enter the kingdom of God.
What a blessed Savior we have in Jesus!

The Christian's Responsibility Towards the Jews

Today's Old Testament devotion comes fromEsther chapter 9 and 10. The book revolves around the story of Esther and Mordecai. Haman wanted to destroy the Jewish race because Mordecai did not bow before him. Haman designed history's first holocaust of the Jews. But God used Mordecai and Esther at this crucial point to save the Jewish people. It is interesting that we do not find God mentioned in this book. However, God acted behind the scenes according to His providence and will to save His people.
Today's world is no different from Haman's world. The contemporary world is replete with Hamans who want to exterminate Jews. Persons like Ahmenijad, the Iranian President and organizations like Hamas are viciously planning to abolish Jewish people. In a world like ours, what is our responsibility towards the Jews? Every Christian woman should be like Esther praying before God for the welfare of the Jews and every Christian man should be like Mordecai striving for the beneficence of the Jewish people. That is the Christian answer to the anti-Semitism which is brewing around the world.
